Funny Camping Games for Adults: 33 Entertaining Activities to Try
Most of our summers are spent camping in the great outdoors, so we’re always looking for fun and funny camping games for adults.
While there are plenty of games for kids, finding these games for adults can be more challenging.
That’s why I’ve compiled this game list for adults that will bring a lot of laughs to your next camping trip. And the best part? Most of them require very little equipment.
Classic Funny Camping Games For Adults
1. Capture the Flag
Capture the Flag isn’t something you’d necessarily think of when looking for funny camping games for adults.
However, there’s something about games you played as a child that’s hilariously fun!
The objective is to capture the other team’s flag and return it to your base without getting caught. It’s one of the best camping games because it can be played anywhere with minimal equipment.
2. Tug of War
This childhood classic is even more entertaining when playing with some tipsy adults (aka older kids).
Want to make it interesting? Try these variations:
- Swimming Pool Tug of War: To play, place an inflatable pool in-between the two teams. The winning team is the one who drags the other into the pool.
- The best thing about this game on a hot day is that it doesn’t suck to be the loser.
- Stumps Tug of War: Best played between 2 people, each competitor will stand on a milk crate or “stump.” The loser is the first player to fall or be pulled off their stump.
Candice & Rodney are not responsible for any injuries that may occur during these altered games of Tug Of War.
3. Card Games
Some of the best games for camping are card games. They’re easy to transport and can be played anywhere. Some funny card games for camping include:
Some of our favourite funny adult card games include:
- F*ck The Game
- Say Anything
- Cards Against Humanity
- Over-Rated
- Personally Incorrect
4. Board (and other) Games
Board games are another classic camping activity. They’re perfect for rainy days or when you want to relax after a busy day.
Here are some of our favourites:
- Quelf
- Super Skills
- Speak Out – Seriously, you will pee yourself laughing playing this one; it’s so much fun!
5. Watermelon Eating Contest
I’m not a fan of gluttony, but I could eat a boatload of watermelon any day of the week! Start the clock, and the last one to finish their melon is declared the champion.
Don’t like watermelon? That’s okay; pick your favourite juicy fruit instead!
6. Scavenger Hunt
Another game that can be played anywhere. Simply create a list of items found in the area, set and timer and HUNT!
Make it fun for adults by looking for “wiener-shaped” rocks” or a stick that’s the “same length as your wiener“. The team that finds the most items within the time limit wins.
7. Charades
Charades is one of those classic campfire games that can be played with small or larger groups. Split the group into two teams, and have one team act out a word or phrase while their fellow campers try to guess what it is.
One of the best ways to figure out what to act out is a simple Google search, for example, “Best Camping Movies,” and use those as clues.
8. Simon Says
Another game that is fun for younger kids but also still fun as an adult is Simon Says.
One person is designated as “Simon” and commands the group. The group must follow the commands only if “Simon says” before the command.
9. Telephone
Just like gossip, Telephone can get ridiculous very quickly. Especially if you’re having some beverages!
One person whispers a phrase to the person next to them, and that person whispers it to the next person, and so on. The last person says the phrase out loud, and it’s usually very different from the original phrase.
10. Ghost Stories
Not necessarily a “game”, but some people are amazing storytellers.
Telling ghost stories around the fire is one of my favourite pastimes. And while it’s fun in a small group, it’s even better if there are many people to share!
Funny Drinking Games for Adults
As an adult, camping trips can be an excellent opportunity to unwind and socialize with friends. And what better way to do that than with some fun drinking games? Here are a few of my personal favourites:
11. Beer Pong
Beer Pong is a classic drinking game that’s perfect for camping. You only need a table, some cups, and ping pong balls.
Divide into teams and take turns trying to throw the ball into your opponents’ cups. If you make it, they must drink the beer in the cup.
The team that eliminates all of their opponent’s cups first wins.
12. Cheers to the Governor!
Cheers to the Governor is a fun and easy drinking game that involves counting and toasting.
The first player starts by saying “one,” and the next player says “two,” and so on. When a player reaches “seven,” they must say “cheers to the governor,” and everyone takes a drink.
The player who said “seven” then gets to make a new rule, such as replacing a number with a word or making everyone use their non-dominant hand. The game continues until everyone is too drunk to count.
13. Truth or Dare
Truth or Dare is a classic game that can be modified for drinking. Players take turns choosing “truth” or “dare,” and if they refuse to answer or complete the task, they must take a drink.
The questions and dares can be as tame or wild as you want but be prepared for embarrassing revelations and hilarious challenges.
14. Never Have I Ever
Never Have I Ever is a popular party game that can lead to hilarious revelations.
To play, each person takes turns saying something they have never done, such as “Never have I ever gone skinny dipping.” Anyone who has done that thing has to take a drink.
Candice & Rodney do not condone drinking irresponsibly. Please play these games as the responsible and respectful adults that we know you are.
Games for Large Groups
When camping with a large group, it’s important to have games everyone can participate in. Here are some fun group games that are perfect for large groups:
15. Relay Races
Relay races are a classic group game that never gets old. Split up into teams and decide where the relay will take place.
You can race down to the beach and back or around the campground if you feel extra energetic!
16. Volleyball
All you need is a net and a ball, ready to go. You can set up teams or play for fun.
I love volleyball because it’s a great way to get everyone up and moving and you don’t have to be a pro to enjoy it.
17. Obstacle Course
An obstacle course is a fun way to challenge your group. Set up a course with obstacles, like crawling under a tarp or jumping over a log.
Time each person as they complete the course, and see who can finish the fastest.
18. Animal Noises
This game is perfect for a group that is not embarrassed and loves to be silly!
To play, have everyone sit in a circle and choose an animal. The first person starts by making the noise of their chosen animal (like a cat), and the person to their left must then make the noise of a different animal.
This continues around the circle until someone repeats an animal noise or can’t think of a new one. That person is out, and the game continues until only one person is left.
19. Name That Song
Are there any rockstars in the house? Name That Song can be played around the campfire and it helps bring people out of their shells.
One person sings, hums or plays a short song clip, and the other players have to guess the song’s name and the artist’s.
Unique Scavenger Hunt Ideas
Here are a few scavenger hunt ideas that are perfect for camping:
20. Nature Scavenger Hunt
A nature scavenger hunt is a classic and fun way to explore the natural surroundings of your campsite.
Create a list of items found in nature, such as pinecones, acorns, wildflowers, feathers, and river rocks. You can also add challenging items to the list, such as animal tracks or mushrooms (make sure not to eat them!).
To make the scavenger hunt more interesting, you can add clues or riddles that lead to the items on the list. You can also divide the group into teams and make it a competition to see which team can find all the items on the list first.
21. Geocaching
Geocaching is a modern-day scavenger hunt that uses GPS coordinates to locate hidden treasures. You will need a GPS device or a smartphone with a geocaching app to participate in geocaching.
There are millions of geocaches hidden all over the world, including many in popular camping areas. You can search for geocaches near your campsite and create a scavenger hunt based on the ones you find.
22. Scavenger Hunt with a Twist
Create a list of items that are not found in nature but are commonly found in a camping area. For example, you can add items such as a .
Active Games for Outdoor Enthusiasts
While it’s fun to sit down and play cards, I also enjoy being active camping.
I always pack fun and engaging games to get everyone up and moving. Here are some good ones:
23. Night Frisbee
This game is perfect for after the sun and stars emerge. Simply grab a glow-in-the-dark frisbee and start tossing it around.
It’s a great way to exercise while enjoying the beautiful night sky.
24. Badminton
You don’t even have to bother setting up a net if you don’t want to. Simply pack some rackets, a birdie and you’re all set.
Plus, it’s a great way to work up a sweat while having fun with friends and family.
25. Camp Races
These are always a hit. You can race to see who can set up (or take down) their tent the fastest or who can chop the most wood in 5 minutes.
Get creative and use your imagination with this one!
26. Classic Lawn Games
Just like with music, you can’t go wrong with an old classic game. Here are some lawn games that we always have with us:
- Cornhole
- Ladder Toss
- Horseshoes
- Washers
27. Sleeping Bag Races
It’s a pretty simple concept. Players crawl inside their sleeping bags and race to the finish line.
If you’re uncoordinated or prone to injuries, avoiding this one like the plague is best!
Classic Party Games with a Camping Twist
When it comes to camping games for adults, sometimes it’s best to stick with the classics. Here are some classic party games with a camping twist that are sure to be a hit:
28. Two Truths and a Lie
To play, each person takes turns telling three statements about themselves, two of which are true and one of which is a lie. The other players then have to guess which statement is the lie.
To add a camping twist, have players make their statements related to camping experiences or their survival skills.
29. Camping Charades
Charades is a classic party game that can easily be adapted to a camping theme.
Divide into teams and take turns acting out camping-related words or phrases, such as “pitching a tent” or “starting a campfire.”
The team with the most correct guesses wins.
30. Would You Rather
Would You Rather is a fun game that can spark some interesting discussions. In this version, make the questions related to camping.
For example, one person poses a question with two options, such as “Would you rather sleep in a tent with a bear outside or sleep in a hammock with a swarm of mosquitoes?”
The other players then have to choose which option they would rather do and explain why.
31. 20 Questions
20 Questions is a classic guessing game that can be adapted to a camping theme.
One person thinks of a camping-related object or concept, and the other players take turns asking yes or no questions to try to guess what it is.
Spooky Games for a Nighttime Adventure
When it’s time to turn off the flashlights and gather around the campfire, it’s the perfect time to play some spooky games.
Here are some of my favourite games that are sure to give everyone a thrill:
32. Werewolves
Werewolves is another classic game that is perfect for a spooky night.
In this game, players are divided into two groups: werewolves and villagers. The werewolves must try to “kill” all the villagers, while the villagers must try to figure out who the werewolves are and “kill” them.
Players take turns accusing each other of being a werewolf and voting on who to “kill”. The game ends when either all the werewolves or all the villagers are “killed”.
33. Murder by Winking
Murder by Winking is a fun twist on the classic game of Mafia. In this game, one person is chosen to be the “murderer” and another person is chosen to be the “detective”.
The rest of the players are “victims”. The murderer must “kill” the victims by winking at them without being caught by the detective. If the detective catches the murderer, they win.
If the murderer “kills” all the victims without being caught, they win.
