Couples Camping Activities For During the Day
1. Buy a Tandem Bike and Go on an Adventure
You don’t have to have a tandem bike, but it will take your bike ride to the next level if you do. We always bring our bikes when we go camping because you can do it anywhere and it’s a surefire way to build up an appetite for a romantic dinner later.
2. Listen to an Inspiring Book Together
This is a great way to spend a lazy, hot afternoon. Find the perfect shaded spot to lay down a blanket and pillows, snuggle up together and get lost in an inspiring tale.
Make sure to download a special book or podcast before you head out on your next romantic camping trip, as many places (at least where we go camping) are off the grid and you may not have internet access.
3. Try Geocaching
Are you familiar with geocaching? It’s an outdoor activity that uses a GPS system (or your mobile phone) to find “geocaches” which have been placed there by other “geocachers.” It’s one of those camping experiences where you can just “get lost” for the day together and not even realize how quickly the time has flown by.
Crazily enough, it happens all over the world and is essentially a treasure hunt on a global scale. You never know what you’re going to find and the idea is to leave something for the next person to find (which could be as simple as a funny joke or directions to a local “must-see” attraction.)
4. Kayaking and Canoeing
If you’re camping near a lake or river, kayaking or canoeing is a great activity for couples to enjoy mother nature. It’s a fun way to explore the water and get some exercise at the same time. We like to rent a kayak or canoe if we don’t have our own and spend a few hours paddling around.
On our last camping trip, we rented a canoe and paddled to a secluded spot on the lake where we could swim and relax. It was a perfect opportunity to spend some quality time together.
5. Go For a Hike
There’s nothing like getting out and exploring the great outdoors with your significant other. We always make sure to research the hiking trails in the area before we go camping so we can plan out our day. We like to find routes that offer scenic views and things like hot springs and such.
The nice thing is that you don’t need to pack a bunch of stuff to go for a hike. A good pair of hiking shoes, some water and snacks, and a compass are all you need for a fun day.
6. Go Fishing
Fishing is another great activity to do during the day while camping. You can fish from shore or bring/rent a boat if you’d rather get out on the water.
Even if you don’t catch anything, fishing is a fun way to spend time together and enjoy the peacefulness of the lake. And, if you do catch something, you can cook up a romantic meal together later.
7. Do a Scavenger Hunt
Different from geocaching, hunting for treasures is simply heading out into nature to see what you can find. Ever since I was a kid, I have been obsessed with petrified wood so I am always looking for it everywhere I go.
You can also find nature treasure hunt lists online that you can print off, or make your own before you head out. Make it as ridiculous and personal as you like. For example, you could hunt for a rock that reminds you of your lover’s bottom (or whatever silly thing you can think of!)
8. Lounge in a Hammock
Have you ever had an afternoon siesta in a hammock? If not, it’s a great idea and I highly recommend it! The last one I had was the best nap that I’ve ever had in my life. It’s just so peaceful with the sounds of nature all around you.
Hammocks are good to have around for those lazy days when you don’t feel like doing much. There are tons of portable hammock options that are made for two people or you can simply bring one for each of you. Paired with a double sleeping bag, this could be a recipe for some afternoon action.
9. Go Swimming or Paddle Boarding
Find a camping area next to some water and you’ll have hours of entertainment. There are lots of paddle board and water toy options depending on what you want to do.
Swimming in a lake is one of my favourite things to do (but it’s even better if you’re near an ocean!) It doesn’t cost anything, helps cool you off and you don’t need to pack anything extra (except your bathing suit, a towel and sunblock of course.)
10. Play Badminton or Cornhole
Who doesn’t love a fun game of cornhole? Some of our other favourite camping games include giant Yardzee, horseshoes and lawn darts.
You could also toss around a football or bring a ball and your baseball gloves for a friendly game of “catch”. Or, maybe you’re looking for some more “adult” games to play? Check out my list of the best camping drinking games (#4 is the best!)
11. Plan a Photoshoot
Even if you’re not a photographer with a fancy camera, phones these days can take some amazing pictures. Maybe you want to capture their beautiful smile in nature or the way their eyes pop in the sun.
Having a mini photoshoot is a fun way to capture some memories that you can take home with you and cherish long after the camping trip is over.
12. Go Exploring
Depending on where you’re camping there are many ways to explore the area that you’re in. You can explore by foot, bicycle, ATV or maybe even by horse.
Get to know the area that you will be camping in before heading out so that you can do and see all of the “musts” in the area. Maybe there’s a private beach that you could kayak to for a romantic picnic. The possibilities are endless and you won’t know what they are until you get out there and explore.
Nighttime Couples Camping Activities
When the sun goes down, there are still plenty of fun and romantic activities to do. Here are some of my favourite couples’ camping activities for nighttime.
13. Campfire Cooking
One of the most enjoyable parts of camping is cooking over an open flame. It’s even better when you’re sharing the experience with your significant other.
Make sure to bring all of the necessary ingredients and cooking utensils. Keep it simple with hot dogs and marshmallows, or (if you’ve got the skill) try cooking a full meal over the fire in a Dutch oven. It’s a great way to bond and create memories together.
One of the most romantic things you can do while camping is stargazing. The night sky is full of wonder and beauty. Bring a cozy blanket, some pillows and maybe even an air mattress to make it extra comfortable.
Rodney loves stargazing and has even downloaded an app to help us identify all of the constellations and planets. I’d be lying if I said that we’ve never fallen asleep under the stars together. It’s the perfect place to fall asleep in each other’s arms.
15. Board Games and Cards
No camping evening is complete without some board games or your favourite card game. They’re a great way to pass the time and have some fun together.
You’ll be able to enjoy some friendly competition with your partner and (depending on the game) maybe get to know them a bit better.
16. Go on a Moonlit Stroll
Depending on where you’re camping, a lovely night hike may be just the activity you’re looking for. But before going on a romantic walk, make sure you know the area (and any critters to look out for).
As a safety precaution, we always have a flashlight and bear spray on hand just in case “something goes bump in the night!” The last thing you want to do is be caught in the dark if a bear rolls up on you.
17. Tell Each Other Stories
Whether they be ghost stories or tales from the past, telling stories around the campfire is a fun way to pass the time at night. Throw in some adult beverages and who knows what secrets, I mean stories, might come out!
18. Make Your Favourite Campfire Snacks
Whether it be smores or campfire popcorn, everybody loves snacks! Want to make it romantic? Melt some chocolate in a campfire safe pot and pour it over some strawberries, or your favourite fruit, for a sweet surprise.
There are lots of treats that you can make over the campfire, you just have to be creative.

19. Couples Yoga
Yoga is a great way to connect with your partner and relax in nature. Find a peaceful spot in the woods or by a lake, roll out your yoga mats, and take some deep breaths together.
Start with some simple poses like downward dog or child’s pose and work your way up to more challenging poses. Not only will you feel more connected to your partner, but you’ll also feel more relaxed and centred.
20. Couple’s Massage
Nothing says romance like a couple’s massage in the great outdoors. Bring some massage oil and take turns giving each other massages.
Choose a spot with a beautiful view or a cozy spot by the fire. Just make sure you don’t get too close to the flames.
21. Picnic and Wine Pairing
A romantic picnic is a classic couples camping activity. Pack a basket with your favourite snacks and a bottle of wine, and find a scenic spot to enjoy your meal.
Take your time to savour the meal, feed each other and enjoy the moment. We always bring 2 bottles of wine because we know we’re not going to be in a hurry to leave our special place.
22. Go Skinny Dipping
If you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone, skinny dipping is one of the most exhilarating outdoor activities you can do! Of course, this is only something that you want to do if you’re secluded or it’s nighttime and you like to live dangerously (like I do.)
It’s even better if it’s the first time for both of you because you’ll always have that memorable experience together. Bonus points if you’re ballsy enough to do it during the day!
23. Create a Cozy Sleeping Space
I’ll admit, it’s been quite a while since I slept on the ground in a tent. However, technology has come a long way and there are some pretty awesome sleeping mats out there now.
Bring your favourite pillows and invest in a two-person sleeping bag for the ultimate romantic camping experience. You could even hang some fairy lights in your tent to create the perfect ambience.
24. Make the Camping Trip a Surprise
From start to finish, keep them guessing. Pick a spot that you know they’ll love, bring all of their favourite food and drinks and surprise them with some fun activities throughout the weekend.
When Rodney and I first started dating he surprised me with a weekend getaway to the Rocky Mountains. I knew nothing before we left except what I would need for the weekend’s activities.
We pitched our tent in this beautiful, quiet campground (it felt like we were there alone) and he had all of my favourite treats. We went hiking and cliff diving (into FREEZING cold glacier water) and it was an experience I’ll never forget!
25. Find a Secluded Campsite
If you’re like us, you like to camp “off the grid” so finding a secluded campsite is easy. If not, make sure you call ahead and see if you can book the most secluded campsite at the campground.
Also, avoiding National, Provincial or State Parks will also make it easier to find a secluded spot.
26. Decorate Your Campsite With Lights
Set the mood with some beautiful campsite lighting. From fairy lights to glow-in-the-dark rocks, you can check out some of my great lighting ideas for some romantic inspiration.
27. Download a Romantic Playlist
Between the music and the romantic lighting, they won’t be able to resist having an amazing time with you. Just make sure that you’re devices are charged up and (if you have one) don’t forget your portable speaker!
Again, it is also good to make sure that you have downloaded some music before heading out just in case you don’t have reception.
28. Pack Some Camping Aphrodisiacs
Most people want to keep it simple when it comes to camping food. If you’re looking for some food ideas to increase the heat between you and your partner, here are some of the easiest ones to pack:
- Sweet potatoes
Even if they don’t work, at least you’ve packed along some healthy and delicious snacks for the two of you!
29. Enjoy a Sunset Picnic
Sunset (or sunrise if you’re an early riser) picnics will never get old. They say we “mostly eat with our eyes” so when you pair some delicious food with a beautiful backdrop, it really doesn’t get any better.
Make sure you pack a nice picnic blanket to sit on and ingredients for their favourite beverage as well (whether it be coffee or a cocktail.)
30. Cozy Up in a Camping Loveseat
Camp chairs can be hard to get comfortable in but snuggling up with your partner in a cozy loveseat is the perfect way to end the day. If it’s chilly outside, make sure you bring some cozy blankets and warm drinks to keep everyone nice and toasty.
You can tell stories or simply enjoy each other’s company while you listen to the fire crackling and watch the flames dancing. It is a truly mesmerizing (and romantic) experience.
31. Camp on a Beach
If you want to take it to a whole other romantic level, find a place that allows you to camp right on the beach. Being that close to the water will also make it easy to enjoy a late-night skinny dip (if you so choose!)
Just make sure you properly secure your tent in the sand (or at least make sure it’s not going to be windy) and pack the appropriate bedding. Even if you’re just going for a night, this would make a great date night.
Camping with your significant other can be a great way to strengthen your bond and create unforgettable memories. With the 31 couples camping activities we’ve shared, you should have no problem planning the perfect romantic camping getaway.
